I can remember the day when I brought my 8lbs 11 ounces bouncing baby boy home from the hospital. He was completely dependant on me.
He is now thirteen years old, and I would say he’s now about 65% independent, and only needs me as his driver to his sporting activities, a guidance counsellor, a personal chef, and a personal assistant. Just the other day, I was in denial, the boy basically stated I was too old to help him with his homework.
(This sounds so familiar! I don’t even blame him, because when I was his age, I use to say the same thing to my parents…. “mommy you just don’t understand….”)
ME: “Hi Monkey, you okay? Do you want to go to basketball tonight?”
SON: “No, it’s okay, I have a lot of homework to do.”
ME: “Ok, do you need my help?”
SON: “No, it’s okay, you wouldn’t understand the assignment.”
ME: “Oh, okay, but you do know I finished the eighth grade and graduated. Then went on to college and also graduated.”
