According to Wikipedia, Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child’s life. The signs typically develop gradually, but some children with autism will reach their developmental milestones at a normal pace and then regress.
World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 2 April every year since 2008. Autism Ontario celebrates World Autism Awareness Day by “Raising a Flag” for autism. Municipalities around Ontario raise a flag to raise awareness for autism in their region.
I am supporting Autism Awareness by wearing BLUE on April 2. Although this disorder has not personally affected me, I have so many friends and love ones that battle it.
Annika Reid of Candi Apple Couture (www.candiapplecouture.com) is doing a “Social Media Call”. She is asking YOU to also “Light It Up Blue” for someone you know and love living and thriving with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Please wear blue on April 2 and feel free to post it on any of my social media outlets. Please use the hashtags: #LightItUpBlue, #RockingBlue and #LIUB
